Coffee and Connection: Kellie Artis

Like most people in today's digital space, Kellie Artis wears many hats: digital community manager, military spouse and enneagram enthusiast.

A native of South Carolina, Kellie is a military spouse who's "seen it all." Her husband is actively serving in the U.S. Army and they've been together for over 20 years. With a degree in Corporate Communications from the College of Charleston, Kellie loves building and fostering communities. Since the beginning of 2021, Kellie has served as the Digital Community Manager of the Diller Center doing just that.

"Meeting students, connecting them with resources, offering support and providing the opportunities for them to connect with each other is so rewarding and I’m so lucky to be able to do that through the Diller Center," she said.

As the Digital Community Manager, Kellie works hard to make sure the website includes all the information students need to keep up to date on what's going on. She's also responsible for the Student Veteran Orientations held before each term, the Facebook group, the newsletter and the video content.

How does she do it all? Coffee and a passion for learning new things.

Kellie, a night owl, is a coffee drinker, "black, in large quantities, preferably pour over," she specified. And her current obsession is learning about some obscure new thing on YouTube University. She's currently enthralled with Masterclass.

Well known for her outgoing persona found on many videos, digital events and livestreams she revealed that she's pretty introverted in real life. Though now we know that her spunk may be attributed to all the coffee she drinks.

"In-person events, professional or social, are super draining for me and take me quite a while to prepare for and recover from," she said. "Virtual events and interactions don’t feel quite so tasking so I actually don’t hate Zoom!"

While she may be nontraditional with her love for Zoom, she isn't quite as rebellious as others. She admits to pouring in the cereal before her milk and likes a plain old latte when treating herself to a Starbucks.

Among her hobbies, Kellie enjoys a good book, one of her current favorites (she can't choose just one) is "The Complete Enneagram" by Beatrice Chestnut. As an Enneagram 5, she embraces her long, rambling book list.

"I usually have three books going at one time, an audiobook, one on the e-reader and a physical copy," she said.
