Considering a Transfer to GGU?
One great benefit to attending Golden Gate University is the transfer process. GGU undergraduate students transfer in after at least a term at another program, which means they are ready to help you transfer credits and get your degree in the most efficient way possible.
Here are a few key points to transferring to GGU:
You can transfer up to 93 units of previous education or military or work experience
You can also earn credit from exams
GGU makes it easy to transfer with extra guidance and help
Transfer Your Earned Credits
GGU admissions requirements include a 2.0 GPA from previous college work and at least 12-term units of transferable credit. (There are exceptions to this – please reach out if you have questions.) The maximum amount of credit you can transfer is 93 units.
GGU has a transfer tool that helps you understand what your transferrable credits may look like. This tool allows you to select the course you took at a previous academic institution and what the equivalent would be at GGU. It's common to lose a few credits as you transfer, and students commonly lose 10-15% of their credits through the transfer process.
Earn Additional Credits Outside the Classroom
GGU also awards transfer credit for experiences outside the classroom, including work or military experience. Military students can check the American Council on Education (ACE) guidelines for applying their service to credits.
Additionally, students may earn credit from exams, including the AP and CLEP exams and the DSST Exams. These tests shouldn't be taken lightly; they can accelerate your degree program and should be studied for.
How GGU Makes the Process Easy
Applying to transfer credits as part of your application to GGU is easy. You can request additional information online. The application process is quick and easy; as a bonus, GGU will order and pay for your transcripts from previous colleges and universities.
What are the Benefits of Transferring?
There are several reasons transferring is beneficial, one of which is cost. Community colleges are generally less expensive, which gives you more bang for your buck before finalizing your degree path. Another benefit for those transferring to GGU from a California community college is a transfer grant.
The California Community College Transfer Grant is available to those who completed programs in a community college. There are a limited number of grants for transfer students, $3,000 per trimester for full-time enrollment and $1,000 per trimester for part-time. A limited number of grants are available each term, so apply online early.
