6 Health & Wellness Tips for Winter Months

While San Francisco's winter weather is pretty mild, other places in the world have some severe and cold weather. Staying fit and healthy in the winter months can be a challenge, especially as the days are shorter and the air is colder. Here are some tips to help you stay healthy in the winter months.

Bundle Up and Get Outside

It's cold, it's dark and it may be dreary, but staying inside for days on end is not the best idea. The fresh air really will be good for you, especially if you've got the heater running. Dress warmly, pick a sunny (or not raining) day, and get out there for a good walk. Try to get outside for at least 20 minutes a few times a week.

Keep Exercising

Exercising in the winter months can be a challenge. If you've gotten out of the habit, start simply with a walk, a yoga session, or some bodyweight workouts. There are so many available online. January is also a great time to try out a new gym, as they are usually offering specials. Keep up the hard work and it'll become a habit in no time.

Drink Water

Drinking water is important year-round but is especially important in the winter. The cold air and indoor heat can dry out your skin and it's important to keep hydrated. Drinking water, as well as using some lotion or moisturizer will help keep your skin fresh and healthy.

Eat Your Veggies

Comfort food in the winter is common, but don't forget the fruits and veggies. Winter squash, citrus, and dark, leafy greens are wonderful options for winter fruits and vegetables. They're full of fiber, nutrients, and antioxidants and may help ward off some of the pesky colds.

Get Enough Sleep

Following the holiday season, a lot of people are worn out. Sleep is an important and often overlooked, part of staying healthy -- even in the winter. Make sleep a priority and develop a healthy sleep routine, complete with limiting screen time before bed and going to bed about the same time each night.

Deal With Colds Quickly

The winter months often bring colds with them, and staying on top of your health is so very important. If you feel a sniffle or a tickle in your throat coming on, take some time to increase your Vitamin C and rest up. Staying healthy is the key to conquering your goals for the year.
