“I was drafted into the Army as a Private in 1971 and served in the active force for 2 years until honorably discharged as a SP4 in 1973. After Basic Training in Fort Jackson, South Carolina, I was assigned to the US Army Audit Agency as a military auditor. When my active term ended, I converted to Civil Service with the same Agency and was hired as a GS-5. Ultimately, I served 23 1/2 years with the Army and 22 with the Navy in the Naval Audit Service. I ended my career at the US Army Audit Agency as the Auditor General of the Army in 2016 after 45 1/2 years of active and civil service. I like to note that I am the only Auditor General who started at the bottom twice (PFC and GS-5) and ended up at the top. I was blessed with a wonderful career and worked with wonderful people serving our active and reserve Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Airmen. I couldn't have asked for a better career. I attribute the MBA I received from Golden Gate University with contributing to me getting my final two positions (Deputy Auditor General of the Navy and Auditor General of the Army).
