Memorial Day and The Last Full Measure of Devotion
For many Americans, Memorial Day is barely more than an observance of a federal holiday, a time to gather for a barbeque with family and friends and raise a glass for freedom. Even mainstream media can sometimes objectify the day with stock footage of flags on tombstones or with a televised reunion featuring a child throwing out the first pitch at a baseball game only to discover her redeployed parent hidden behind a catcher's equipment.

The Misogi Challenge and the Military: Why a Hero's Journey to Graduation Matters
At its core, misogi is about transformation. It is about relinquishing old habits and limiting beliefs and embracing a new, more powerful version of yourself. As a result of being named the Outstanding Graduate of the Masters Health Care Administration program in 1983, I was promoted to Colonel in 1989. After I retired from Active Duty in January, 1997 I was selected to be the Vice President of Clinical and Support Services at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View, California. All of these successes I owe to Golden Gate University.
